I Am NOT A Lawyer!
Mike Helms for N.C. Senate 36 in 2008

If elected, Mike Helms pledges the following... Support a Taxpayer's Bill of Rights. North Carolina needs to follow Colorado's lead by amending our state constitution to include a Taxpayer's Bill of Rights! Support legislation to abolish forced annexation. Cities and towns DO NOT have the right to annex residents without their consent. Does anyone remember the "consent of the governed"? |
Support legislation to protect private property. We need to prevent the violation of property rights by greedy economic development groups who want to steal private property from citizens, only to hand it over to private developers. Property rights are the foundation of a free society. Several months back the Cabarrus County Commissioners passed another property tax hike. Their wasteful spending habits has cost us dearly. If the County manager can not manage our tax money better than that he should do all of us a favor and resign. We voters should start removing from office local tax-hungry officals who have so little respect for property rights. Remember the behind closed door meeting, the Cabarrus County Commissioners cost us tax payers $100,000.00 in the case with my opponent and refused to take any criminal or civil action at all agaist him. Support tax credits to individuals or businesses that pay for a child's education |

Support legislation to ban economic tax incentives given to major corporations. Equal protection to all, special privileges to none! Plan on repairing the damage to Odell and give Odell back to the people of Odell. Cabarrus County had the highest permanent layoff in North carolina history and my opponent was the Senator that sepose to defend this county and protect the hard working people in this county. He failed us, the county and now we have to live with being in the history books as the county with the largest permanent layoff in North Carolina history. Vote Mike Helms send someone to Raleigh who cares. |
Support legislation to allow North Carolina farmers to produce industrial hemp. This would save our family farms and would help protect our enviroment as well. Our founding fathers grew hemp. The original U.S. Constitution was written on hemp paper. Hemp was grown to support our efforts during World War II. Hemp equals food, fiber and fuel. Hemp also would help alleviate our dependence on fossil fuels. | ||||||
| I don't trust the ones handling the lottery money, and feel Senate and House also will use the lottery money to balance the North Carolina budget. Just feel something is just not right. The schools need this money and I will make sure the schools get their fair share. Will prevent the state legislature from using the lottery funds as an excuse to cut the state's public education budget. |
